Skid Control Training On A Clean Water Skid Pan

On this course you will be driving an unmodified skid pan car fitted with unique low grip tyres on a clean water concrete skid pan area. This technique has been proved to be the most realistic and effective method of learning skid control skills in the UK.

Experienced Instructors

Its important that your skid pan instructor has the skills and experience needed to help you improve your skills. Your DriverSkills instructor will be a championship winning race or rally driver with lots of experience in training real skid control skills. Your friendly Patient instructor will work closely with you to ensure that you can learn the skills at your own pace.

Choose from Front or Rear Wheel Drive Skid Pan

The skid control techniques for front and rear wheel drive cars are very different. When booking you will need to tell us what make and model of car normally drive so we can put you in the correct car on our skid pan (for 4WD cars choose front wheel drive as it's the same technique!) 

No Standing Around!

The maximum group size for skid control training is just two people! So you will always be the next person in the car! + ALL your driving sessions will be one to one with the instructor.

The Skid Pan Lessons Include:

• Welcome, Introduction and Safety Briefing
• 1 Demonstration and Skid Control briefing by Your Instructor
• 2 Sessions Driving on Skid Pan Area
• 1 Demonstration and in-car ABS briefing by Your Instructor
• 1 Session on the ABS Training Area
• Individual Driving Certificate
• All Driving Sessions are 1 to 1 with the Instructor in car
• 40 Minutes Driving Time (Per Driver)

Anti Lock Brakes Utilisation

Also included are sessions driving on our brake and aviod area, here you will learn how to control the use of ABS (Anti Lock Brakes) for emergency swerve avoidance. Your instructor will also explain how these systems work and how get the maximun from them!

The Skid Car That You Use Is Vital!

Most Skid School providers use a car fitted with a skid frame. These systems and do not allow the car to handle in a normal way. The frame also increases the unsprung weight of the car dramatically and so the car reacts initially very slowly and during a skid has too much momentum. Therefore the techniques learnt using these skid frames cannot be applied to a normal road car skid situation! DriverSkills do not use skid frames or any vehicle modifications, we just fit our unique low grip tyres to the cars and drive on our clean water skid pan area. This technique will allow you to experience real skids and learn the correct skills!

Skid Pan Session 1 - Demonstration

Your instructor will demonstrate the driving techniques needed for skid control and recovery before you are put in the hot seat!

Skid Pan Session 2 - The Basics

Your instructor will help you master the basics of car control including under steer and over steer control.

Skid Pan Session 3 - Anti Lock Braking Demonstration

A demonstration from your instructor showing how to maximise the benifits of a car fitted with Anti Lock Brakes

Skid Pan Session 4 - Anti Lock Braking Skills

On this session you will learn how to master the use of ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) in an emergency. We set up an avoidance exercise on our simulated motorway to demonstrate just what this system is capable of - if you know how to get the most out of it!

Skid Pan Session 5 - Skid Control Skills

Back on the skid pad again. On this session you will find everything much easier and more natural. Your instructor will encourage you to let the car slide more and even spin around! This will give you the confidence and techniques needed to bring the car back in control from some seemingly impossible situations!

Skid Car Training Course Certificate

At the end of the course your instructor will give you a signed certificate.

Spectators/Facilities

Friends and family are welcome as spectators and food and drink facilities are provided on site. There are also some pay-on-the-day activities to enjoy. Sorry, dogs are not allowed at the venue.
