Middle Lane Hoggers

When you drive on a motorway these days you may be annoyed by your lack of progress?

This lack of progress is usually caused by middle lane hoggers. We have all seen them driving along without a care in the world at 60 to 65mph. What these people do not seem to realise is, they are effectively turning a 3 or 4 lane motorway into a dual carriageway. They meander along and it doesn't seem to cross their mind that, my word, the inside lane is empty for the next mile, I wonder why? When in actual fact, it is they who should be using the inside lane. The Highway Code states ‘You should always drive in the left hand lane when the road ahead is clear.

Overtaking 

If you are overtaking a number of slower moving vehicles, you should return to the left hand lane as soon as you are past'. Nowhere does it say, ‘Join the motorway, move to the middle lane and stay in that lane until you wish to exit the motorway'. So the next time you drive on a motorway try to consider the Highway Code and other motorway users. Please use the inside lane. That goes for the Volvo, BMW, Mercedes, 4WD and people carrier drivers too, as well as people over 70 and young ladies who have not long passed their test, the Highway Code applies to you, and YES, you are allowed to use the inside lane.
