This advanced driving experience is a full day consisting of half a day skid pan car control training and a half day one to one on the road advanced driving tuition. If you are serious about your on road driving this course is the one for you. At the end of this informative and challenging day your confidence and abilities behind the wheel will have moved on to a new level. 

Course Details

Half Day Skid Control Training

This is a unique skid pan course where you will not only have fun testing your skid control ability but also learn the full range of skills needed to 'Survive' on today's roads. You'll learn how to stay in control of a car when it goes beyond its limit using the skid control skills and techniques used by the worlds best rally drivers! You will also learn how to master the use of ABS and EBD for emergency avoidance!

The Car

Our skid car is unique we don't use an adapted skid car, instead we fit lower grip tyres to a normal family hatchback. This means that our car will handle in the same way that a normal vehicle does allowing the participants to develop skills that can be applied directly to their own vehicles! We also wet one of the bends to create a change of grip/surface to emulate real road conditions.

Our Skid Pan

Our skid pan is a huge area of smooth concrete which measures 1/2 mile by 3/4 mile and is the largest in the UK. This allows us to teach car control in total safety at both low and very high speeds.

The Instructor

Your instructor will be a race winning rally or race car driver and a professional skid pan instructor. He will also have experience in teaching advanced car control to rally competitors. Some of our team also have experience teaching ice driving techniques on frozen lakes in Sweden and Norway.

Course Details

Car Control Dynamics Briefing

First there's a briefing from your instructor explaining exactly what happens when a car skids, and tips are given on how to avoid a dangerous skid situation on the road. Most of today's cars now come with 'active' driver aids like ABS EBD and EBA, but what do they do? Your instructor will also explain how this equipment works and what it can do for you! You are then split into groups and introduced to your track instructor (maximum group size 4 people).  

Demonstration

Your instructor will demonstrate the driving techniques needed for each activity before you are put in the hot seat!

Session 2 - Skid Pan

During the first session your instructor will help you master the basics of car control including under steer control, most modern road cars will under steer in the majority of situations and if you know a few basics you can soon get the hang of controlling it.

Session 3 - Avoidance

On this session you will learn how to master the use of ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) in an emergency. We set up a couple of avoidance exercises to demonstrate just what these systems are capable of - if you know how to get the most out of them!

Session 4 - Skid Pan

Back on the skid pan again but this time with the car set up to over steer (rear end skid) This is quite a challenge at first but its also great fun. Your instructor will help you gain the confidence and techniques needed to bring the car back in control from some seemingly impossible situations!

Half Day Advanced On Road Driving

 

This experience is a one to one with the instructor for the whole course duration and uses the participants own car.
The course is an advanced driving session which takes an exciting and fresh approach to on road driving methods. Its content will help to improve your awareness and observation skills out on the road in all traffic and weather condition and also guide you toward becoming a smoother and more accurate driver.

The Course

Once on the road you will become familiar with the advanced driving system and you may well break with your current driving style. You will find the whole experience is handled in a positive and constructive manner with caring and light hearted approach at all times.
