Driving in the Snow Tips

Driving in the Snow

Our chief instructor Lionel  offers advice on how to stay safe whilst driving in the snow.

How To Drive In The Snow

Last winter we were inundated with requests for information and tips on how to drive safely in snow and ice. Firstly, there is no magic technique! It's all about being aware, being prepared and adapting your driving to the snowy conditions. Skid Pan Training

Its All About Grip!

Your tyres are probably the most important component on your vehicle especially in snow and slush conditions. The legal minimum requirement of tread depth is 1.6mm over ‚¾ of the tyres tread width with no visible bald areas. In snow however, especially if your tyres are more of a summer type tread pattern, i.e. lots of flat rubber areas without treads, anything less than 4mm will render your tyres fairly useless.

Winter Tyres

Winter pattern tyres are a real safety benifit if you can afford them. If you go for a remould snow tyre the cost will be much lower and these do perform really well in the snow and ice. Winter tyres are usually fitted to spare rims so they can be replaced again in the spring and kept for the next winter.
